The Candidate
Tusculum College seeks an intellectual leader who will passionately embrace and articulate the modern mission of the College. This story should be told in the context of the rich history and tradition of the College as it has become intertwined with its Graduate and Professional Studies program. The President must be compelling, creative, energetic, and entrepreneurial with a reputation for using exceptional wisdom to effect positive change.
Successful and significant experience in fundraising, including a major capital campaign, is essential. Time should be carefully balanced between internal and external affairs, assuring that the President is clearly perceived as a consummate administrator/leader, a civic intellectual, and adept in developing resources for the College.
Overall success will hinge upon refined interpersonal skills (particularly the ability to communicate effectively with groups and individuals), depth of experience, and the mental toughness to make good decisions while guiding the College through challenging times. Candidates must demonstrate a thorough understanding of the budgeting process and all financial affairs of the College to assure the ongoing stability of the institution.
Candidates must have significant experience as a successful senior administrator, preferably at the presidential level. Impeccable integrity, morality, trustworthiness, sensitivity to human dignity, and well balanced self-esteem are imperative. The President must be even-handed, collaborative, and open to considering the views of others, yet decisive.
The President must be committed to the constant improvement of student life on campus and in the Graduate and Professional Centers. The President should provide leadership in developing a stronger sense of community among all students. An equal dedication to the recruitment of higher profile students is necessary.
The President will successfully foster faculty and staff development. A sincere respect for academic freedom and a commitment to high quality academic programming is expected.
