The Opportunity

Tusculum College offers an unusual opportunity for a competent and ambitious academic leader who recognizes and appreciates the distinctiveness of the College with its innovative curriculum, rich tradition, and Sunbelt location near Interstate Highway 81 in thriving East Tennessee. There is much challenging work to be done and the potential to build an outstanding Civic Arts institution is real and attainable.

The President is appointed by and reports to the Board of Trustees. The Board is self-perpetuating and normally meets in February, May, and October. The College has an annual budget of $35 million with approximately 120 full-time faculty and staff members, plus 85 part-time adjunct faculty members. Total enrollment is 3,000 students, 800 in the traditional College and 2200 in the Graduate and Professional Studies program. The Board of Trustees is committed to the Mission of the College and stands ready to provide support.

Goals for the new President are:

  • Engender a strong sense of community among students and faculty throughout the College to actualize the dream of a college experience.
  • Implement a productive strategy for endowment, capital, and programmatic funding, to include a capital campaign for a new Science building and renovation of existing facilities.
  • Increase enrollment in the traditional College to 1000 through improved retention. Increase enrollment in the Graduate and Professional Studies program up to 2500, while raising the bar on admission requirements for both programs.
  • Enhance the academic rigor of the College.
  • Unify the Civic Arts program with the Graduate and Professional Studies programs.
  • Create a more equitable balance between athletics and academics.
  • Broaden academic offerings to meet the evolving employment opportunities in the region, country and world.
