The Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies Degree is scheduled to allow today’s busy working adult to pursue teaching certification in grades K-5.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The mission of the Interdisciplinary Studies (Teaching Licensure) major and professional education programs at Tusculum University is to prepare teachers who are committed to excellence in education and who are confident in their abilities to assume leadership as educators and citizens in the communities where they live and work.

To this end, the program continues Tusculum’s focus on the civic and intellectual development of students, while fostering the skills, knowledge and habits of character vital to those involved in the education of the nation’s next generation of citizens.

Sharing the same innovative framework as Tusculum’s other successful programs for working adults, academic courses meet one night per week, allowing students to take a fill-time load with only one night a week committed to face-to-face meetings. Clinical courses run for two full semesters prior to student teaching and require a total of 140 public classroom hours across one academic year.

For information regarding course requirements, visit our catalog.

Education programs at Tusculum University adhere to the requirements and guidelines established by the Tennessee State Board of Education (TSBE) and the Tennessee Department of Education (TDOE). Modifications in initial and advanced education programs and curriculum may occur as the result of TSBE or TDOE actions and regulations. Tusculum University reserves the right to revise academic programs as deemed necessary to meet accrediting and approval criteria.
