FEDERAL FAMILY EDUCATIONAL RIGHTS AND PRIVACY ACT (FERPA)

EMPLOYEE STATEMENT OF UNDERSTANDING

I understand that by virtue of my employment at Tusculum University, I may be granted access to student educational records containing individually identifiable information, the disclosure of which is prohibited by the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act of 1974.

Along with the right to access to students' educational record data at Tusculum University comes the responsibility to maintain the rights of students, particularly as outlined in the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Student records are open to members of the faculty and staff who have a "legitimate need to know;" however, you have a responsibility to maintain the confidentiality of those records.

Under the terms of FERPA, Tusculum University has established the following as "directory information": name, address, date and place of birth, email address, phone, dates of attendance, anticipated graduation date, degrees received, major program, height and weight of athletes, enrollment status, campus, school, college, division, class standing, previous educational agency or institution attended by the student, and awards.

No other information may be released without the prior written consent of the student. Grades, GPA's, social security numbers, ethnicity, and student class schedules should never be released to anyone other than the student under discussion.
